Revitalash vs. Latisse

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Miami Plastic Surgery carries both Latisse and Revitalash. Both products are used to enhance longer, thicker and fuller eyelashes. What’s the difference? Well here it is. Both Revitalash and Latisse contain a very similar active ingredient, so they are expected to work about the same.

Dr. Michael Brinkoff, practicing ophthalmologist for over 25 years, developed Revitalash for his wife whose eyelashes became thin and sparse due to her chemotherapy treatments for breast cancer. Revitalash is just like a liquid eyeliner, which you apply once nightly to the base of your eyelashes, making it a little more user friendly then Latisse. The cost is $140 and should last you up to 6 months, if used as directed. It does not require a prescription. You should see results within 2 months. The product can be used on the upper and lower lid, and even on the eyebrows.

Latisse started out as a clinical trial for a known glaucoma treatment and turned out to have a side-effect- significantly longer eyelashes. When the glaucoma eye drop known as Lumigan entered its third phase of clinical studies, Allergan researchers noticed the drug’s eyelash-enhancing effects and the company soon started considering the cosmetic applications that could be derived from its active ingredient, bimatoprost.  The Latisse solution comes in a bottle similar to an eye drop container and it includes individual applicators to be used once per eye.  Latisse costs $125 and will last about 2 months. It will take about 2 months to get your full result. The product can only be used on the upper lid. Latisse is the only FDA approved eyelash growth enhancer. It also requires a prescription from a doctor.

Both Latisse and Revitalash have similar side effects.

Either way, remember to apply your product of choice to your eyelids every night for best results!
