Facial Implants

Facial Implants are used to improve and enhance facial structure. These implants can proportion facial traits and balance the overall appearance. Placing of facial implants can be done in the chin, jaw, or cheeks.

Good Candidates for a Facial Implant:

  • You desire improvement of a particular area or areas of your face.
  • You are in good physical and emotional health.
  • You have realistic expectations.

Your Cosmetic Consultation:

During your initial consultation, you will meet with the plastic surgeon and staff. Your surgeon will evaluate your facial structure and decide what surgery will benefit you most. Your facial structure will be examined. The type and size of implant will be determined. Your medical history, medications you are presently taking, and physical and emotional health will be reviewed. Photographs may be taken for your medical record. The risks and limitations associated with the surgery will be discussed. An office staff member will provide you with surgical costs and details of the surgery.

About Chin Surgery:

Chin implants are used to achieve overall facial balance. The size and shape of a chin can greatly affect one's profile. Chin surgery is often recommended at the time of a Rhinoplasty to balance the size of the nose and create a harmonious side view. Improvement, not perfection, should be the desired goal. With realistic expectations, this procedure can enhance one's appearance and boost self-esteem.

  • An implant made of safe, synthetic material is custom fitted for each patient.
  • The implant is inserted through a small incision just below the chin.
  • A dressing is applied to the area after surgery and should be left in place for several days.
  • Swelling and some discomfort are to be expected.
  • A feeling of tightness in the area is also expected.
  • Jaw movement is limited for several days following surgery.
  • A soft food diet is required for a few days following surgery.
  • Healing is complete after approximately six weeks.

About Cheek Surgery:

Cheek implants are used to fill in sunken cheekbones and give a more youthful appearance. Your surgeon may recommend this procedure in combination with other facial surgeries such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. As with any surgery, improvement, not perfection, should be the desired goal. With realistic expectations and a positive attitude your surgery can bring personal satisfaction.

  • An implant made of safe, synthetic material is inserted through an incision made inside your upper lip.
  • If this procedure is to be done in combination with other facial surgery, another incision may be used.
  • Mouth movement may be limited several days following surgery.
  • A soft food diet is required for several days following surgery.
  • Healing is a gradual process and depends on if another facial surgery was performed at the same time.

Your final result:

You will be able to see your final result a few months after surgery. Prior to that, you should not evaluate yourself because healing takes time and varies with each individual. Your facial implant will alter your appearance. It may take you some time to become accustomed to your new look. Ultimately, you will find your new trait balances your facial features.
