Forehead LiftForehead Lift or Brow Lift
is a cosmetic procedure used to raise the area above the eyes. This procedure
corrects frown lines in the forehead as well as drooping eyebrows. Your
surgeon may recommend other procedures such as eyelid or facelift surgery to be
done in conjunction with the forehead lift to achieve the desired look. Reasons
to consider a Forehead Lift: - You have deep frown lines on your forehead
due to stress or age.
- Your brow hangs low and heavy.
Your
cosmetic consultation:During your initial consultation, you will meet
with the plastic surgeon and staff. Your physical and emotional health will be
reviewed and photographs may be taken for your medical record. Your surgeon will
examine your forehead, skin, and hairline. Risks and limitations associated with
the surgery will be reviewed. An office staff member will explain the surgical
costs. | | Preparing
for your surgery: - You must have preoperative testing.
- You
must avoid certain medications prior to surgery.
- You must stop smoking
at least two weeks prior to surgery.
- You must arrange for help or care
following your surgery.
About the procedure: - You will
require anesthesia. Your surgeon will determine the type of anesthesia.
- Generally,
this procedure is performed on an outpatient basis.
- Your surgeon will
determine what technique you will benefit most from.
- Classic forehead
lift requires a coronal incision from ear to ear across the hairline. The forehead
skin is lifted and the deeper tissues are altered. The eyebrows are raised and
any excess skin is removed. The incision is closed with stitches or clips.
- Endoscopic
Brow Lift requires less scarring than the classic forehead lift. Several, small
incisions are made along the hairline. These incisions are typically no longer
than one inch. Using an endoscope, a thin instrument with a small camera at the
end, the surgeon lifts the coronal skin and alters the forehead muscles. The camera
allows the surgeon to have more visibility of the underlying tissues. If needed,
the eyebrows are also lifted and held in place with sutures or staples hidden
by the hairline.
Recovery following surgery: - Your doctor
will prescribe pain medication to help you feel more comfortable.
- You
may experience temporary numbness, swelling, and discomfort with either procedure.
- Classic Forehead Lift
- You may also experience itching along
the hairline.
- You must maintain your head elevated for a couple of days
after the surgery.
- You may experience temporary hair loss along the incision.
- You may experience swelling of the lower face.
- Stitches are
removed within two weeks. Sometimes it may take two stages.
- Endoscopic
Brow Lift
- Patients tend to experience less discomfort and itching with
this procedure.
- Stitches or screws will be removed within one to two
weeks.
Your final result:Once the healing process is complete,
you will notice a more youthful appearance and a rested expression. |
