RhinoplastySurgery of the Nose
is a surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of the nose. This procedure
can dramatically change the way a person looks. Some patients may benefit with
a chin augmentation in combination with a Rhinoplasty to balance the facial features. Reasons
to consider Rhinoplasty: - You are unhappy with the size and/or shape
of your nose.
- You suffered an injury that has altered the appearance
of your nose.
- You have breathing problems.
Good Candidates
for Rhinoplasty: - If you are a young patient, you must reach mature
growth before having surgery of the nose. (About age fifteen or sixteen)
- You
must have good physical and emotional health.
- You must have realistic
expectations.
Your cosmetic consultation:During your initial
consultation, you will meet the plastic surgeon and staff. It is important you
feel comfortable with your surgeon. Your physical and emotional health will be
reviewed and photographs may be taken for your medical record. Your surgeon will
examine the size and shape of your nose, skin type, and nasal structures. Additional
surgery such as chin augmentation will also be discussed. The risks and limitations
associated with surgery will be reviewed. An office staff member will provide
you with surgical costs and additional information. Preparing for your
surgery: - You must have preoperative testing
- You must avoid
certain medications prior to surgery.
- You must stop smoking at least
two weeks prior to surgery.
- You must arrange for help or care following
your surgery.
About Rhinoplasty surgery: - You will require
anesthesia.
- This is an outpatient procedure. You will be released to
go home the day of surgery.
- Most of the incisions are made inside the
nose.
- Some bone and cartilage are removed.
- A splint is applied
to the new nose to help keep its shape.
