Drs.
Kelly, Herman and Wolf invite you to watch their new series: BODY WORK,
beginning on July 26 on TLC at 9 PM (ET/PT). BEAUTY
IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER: TLC EXPLORES THE LIFE AND CAREERS OF PLASTIC
SURGEONS AND THEIR PATIENTS IN NEW SERIES BODY WORK Unscripted Series Examines
Intersection of Art, Science and Medicine According
to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, nearly 8.9 million men and women
sought plastic surgery in 2003. Once thought of as a luxury for the rich, cosmetic
surgery is increasingly accessible to people of various ages, economic situations
and lifestyles. But what motivates people to “get some work done?” Who are doctors
behind cosmetic surgery? What do they think about their work and how do they live?
From the producers of the Emmy-award winning medical series TRAUMA: LIFE IN
THE ER comes BODY WORK, a 20-episode television series that presents
a compelling look at the real lives of patients and doctors in a field of medicine
like no other. BODY WORK debuts Monday, July 26 at 9 PM (ET/PT)
only on TLC.
BODY WORK follows the non-stop parade of patients who
decide to undergo cosmetic surgery – some for the first time, others for regular
maintenance, and still others to correct failed procedures or natural conditions.
All have the ultimate goal of transforming their appearance, as well as their
lives. The series examines some of the amazing, bizarre, moving and humorous personal
stories of patients who choose to undergo treatment, and their thoughts and emotions
during their transformations. How has the procedure enriched or changed their
lives? What financial sacrifices are they making in the name of beauty? How do
they cope with the reaction of family and friends whose opinions are as sharp
as a surgeon’s scalpel? BODY WORK debunks the stereotypes and negative
connotations that are sometimes associated with plastic surgery and provides insight
into the patient’s decision-making process. At the core of the series are personal
stories that do not exploit, but dignify, the patients' journeys. Those journeys
begin with the consultation and continue through planning, procedure, recovery
and transition back to regular life. BODY WORK follows doctors in
Miami whose day-to-day work life requires them to be equal parts artist, surgeon,
psychiatrist and CEO. Plastic surgery is one of the most grueling medical specialties
and surgeons train for almost a decade before they can practice their profession.
The series profiles every aspect of their lives – from personal relationships
and patient struggles, to their often fiery interactions with their colleagues
to their displays of surgical finesse in the face of adversity. The BODY
WORK doctors practice at Miami Plastic Surgery in Florida. In Miami, Drs.
Brad Herman, Michael Kelly and Carlos Wolf make up the team of doctors who are
business partners, friends and competitors. Good looking, fun loving and wealthy,
the trio has a diverse client base in a city that treasures youthful good looks
and physiques. The BODY WORK doctors are young, confident and highly accomplished,
trying to balance the emotional and ethical needs of their patients with their
own most intimate needs and fears. For a virtual experience of BODY WORK,
