Cosmetic plastic surgery is still populated by women for the most part. But more and more men aren’t thrilled with the effects aging is having on their face and body and are deciding to do something about it. Gone are the days when there was a certain taboo about men having plastic surgery.

At Miami Plastic Surgery, our three board-certified plastic surgeons each have extensive experience in working with male patients helping them address issues they are having with their face and body.

What are common plastic surgery procedures for men?

Men now make up about 11 percent of the total cosmetic plastic surgery procedures, and these numbers keep rising. Numbers have more than tripled since the end of the 1990s. You could say the weathered, hammered skin and sagging eyelids of the Marlboro Man as an icon of male handsomeness is as outdated as smoking itself.

Here are the top five plastic surgeries for men in 2019 from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons:

  1. Rhinoplasty/Nose reshaping
  2. Blepharoplasty/Eyelid surgery
  3. Liposuction
  4. Breast reduction
  5. Hair transplantation

The top five non-surgical procedures for men:

  1. Botulinum toxin injections
  2. Laser hair removal
  3. Microdermabrasion
  4. Chemical peels
  5. Dermal filler injections

What’s behind the increase for men opting to have something done?

Thanks to the past year of endless Zoom meetings where we can always see our own face over in the corner of the screen, there’s no doubt that everyone has had lots of time to take inventory of what we aren’t thrilled about with our faces. FaceTime calls. Social media. Fact is, these days we’re all seeing our own face more than ever before. Selfie anyone?

The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery conducted a survey before all the virus madness. One third of men said they were “extremely likely” to consider having cosmetic surgery. Slightly less than half said they wanted to have the surgery to “feel more confident.” Another quarter of respondents said they wanted to “look younger” to stay competitive in their careers.

This is a trend that isn’t going anywhere. Who says men can’t feel like looking their best anyway? At Miami Plastic Surgery, our three plastic surgeons have extensive experience with male plastic surgery, which can be quite different than procedures performed on women. That’s the kind of experience and expertise you can trust. Call us at 305.595.2969 to schedule a consultation.
