What Is Cellfina?

Cellfina in Miami is the only FDA-cleared minimally invasive procedure clinically proven to improve the appearance of cellulite on the buttocks and thighs for at least 3 years. This is longer than any other FDA-cleared treatment for cellulite and is performed by a qualified physician in an office setting.

Who is an ideal candidate for a Cellfina Cellulite Treatment?

Adults of all ages may be good candidates for Cellfina cellulite treatment. Women are more likely to develop cellulite due to the way that the female body holds fatty tissue in certain areas, such as the thighs and buttocks. The patterning of connective tissue beneath the skin also differs between men and women, making women more susceptible to cellulite. Patients who get Cellfina range from twenty-something to sixty-something and are generally in good health. The best results are achieved in patients who have a stable weight and good skin elasticity that allows the skin to bounce back and smooth out after fibrous bands have been severed. Your provider at Miami Plastic Surgery will carefully evaluate your problem area and discuss what Cellfina may be able to achieve for you to ensure that your expectations line up with their anticipated outcome.

How Does Cellfina Work to Reduce Cellulite?

After a local numbing agent is administered, a qualified physician uses the Cellfina System to target the structural problems that cause cellulite.  By releasing the fibrous bands under the dimpled areas with cellulite treatments, Cellfina reduces the appearance of cellulite in just one treatment session with results lasting for at least three years. The procedure takes about 1-2 hours to complete with minimal downtime afterward.

How long after a Cellfina treatment will I see my results?

The results of Cellfina treatment may start to appear as soon as 3 days after the procedure. As the body’s regenerative functions continue to remodel the area in which fibrous bands have been severed, the smoothing effects of Cellfina improve. Results may peak in 4 to 8 weeks.

How is Cellfina different than other Cellulite removal treatments?

Cellfina differs from other cellulite removal treatments in its focus on the fibrous bands that pull down on the skin. Other systems target the subcutaneous fatty tissue that is involved in cellulite. Some do this with laser energy, some with radiofrequency energy. In either situation, it takes time for the fat to subside before results can be seen. Cellfina releases the skin from the septae, achieving quick smoothing that can last approximately 2 years.

What should I avoid after a Cellfina treatment?

Cellfina patients are advised to avoid exercise for a few days after their procedure. This is because the area may be slightly swollen, bruised, and tender or sore. Exercise and excessive heat could worsen these side effects. Patients should avoid direct sun exposure and swimming for the first week after Cellfina treatment. Compression garments such as spandex leggings or shorts can be worn for 2 to 3 weeks to help smooth the treatment area.

What are the side effects of a Cellfina treatment?

Mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and tenderness or soreness are the most common side effects of Cellfina treatment. Patients typically do not need medication to manage the minor discomfort that may occur. If necessary, however, over-the-counter pain medication may be taken as needed.

Is Cellfina treatment painful?

No. It does not hurt to get Cellfina. Before commencing with the minimally-invasive procedure, we administer a mild local anesthetic beneath the skin. This numbs nerve-endings and makes Cellfina a painless treatment.
